THINKING BUSINESS
a blog by Chris Barrow

You only need to get three things right to be successful in business

I’ve often described Bank Holiday weekends as “freelancer catch-up time” and I wonder how many of you could be found during the last 4 days in your home office or with your head in admin and numbers?

For me that was yesterday and a Bunker session that began around 08:00 and, apart from a dog walk mid-morning, ended at 15:00 when I emerged with email inbox zero and my week planned out.

No matter how hard we work and for how long, there simply isn’t ever an end to the list though is there?

I’m leaving for 5 days of travel this morning (yep – that includes a Saturday conference presentation for a mini-corporate) and yet I could happily spend the next few days here at my desk, turning out a queue of project work that Team CB are patiently waiting for.

Yesterday was the usual Monday opportunity to read the weekly trackers sent by owners and managers – the sense check that we are all in the same boat.

On the negative side:

  1. not enough hours in the day;

  2. team members not on the bus and the challenges of recruitment;

  3. making it all profitable.

To put it another way – TIME – PEOPLE – MONEY.

On the positive side:

  1. getting things done that have been on lists for some time;

  2. hiring and promoting exceptional people who shine;

  3. making it all profitable.

To put it another way – TIME – PEOPLE – MONEY

Whether you are struggling or having your best year yet, here are three questions for you to ponder as we begin again:

  1. How can I improve my use of time?

  2. How can I improve the contribution of my people?

  3. How can I improve the generation of my profit?
