THINKING BUSINESS
a blog by Chris Barrow

The last day

Sunday and the last day of the Christmas and New Year holiday – back to work tomorrow and that means the alarm clock will be going off early again. Its been a very good couple of weeks, apart from a bizarre New Year’s Eve that involved a dying cat, a badly swollen ankle (mine) and a cancelled party. I could write a very good BBC play based on the events of the evening but will respect the privacy of the cat’s owners, who were understandably horrified by the event. Other than that, I’ve been steadily working my way through the fourth novel in the Twilight series, learning the ropes on my beautiful new Macbook (with eternal thanks to Kim Black for her telephone guidance from California) and generally resting, sleeping late, eating well and getting my soul back in shape. The ankle injury has buggered up the post-New Year running campaign – that will have to wait. But – hey – how much faster and better is the Macbook than my clunky old Vaio that sits, somewhat forlornly, beside me as I type? I know, I know – why didn’t I do this sooner? Same for my best new gadget of 2008 – SatNav on the M3 – how did I survive without it? Second best was the 3G iphone, which continues to be one of the best business tools ever. Best business book was “Tribes” by Seth Godin. Best personal development book – “Facing Love Addiction” by Pia Mellody. Best novel – “Perdido Street Station” by China Mieville. I’m all Apple’d up now – and ready for the new business year to start. It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens to retail sales over the next three months – and how that impacts the sale of private dentistry. I’ll be watching carefully – and I have a few surprises under my belt for my faithful followers.
