Real Change Takes More Than a Quick Fix—Here’s What Actually Works

Writer: Chris BarrowChris Barrow

A guest post by Mark Topley

I’ve had a lot of conversations over the past few weeks with practice owners and managers who are overworked, overwhelmed, and just trying to keep their heads above water. They’re juggling a million things - running a business, managing a team, dealing with the unexpected—and yet, nobody ever actually taught them how to do it.

So, they do what most of us do. They look for solutions. They read the books, watch the videos, listen to the podcasts—hoping that if they just learn enough, things will start to click.

But here’s the truth:

●      Real change doesn’t come from learning more—it comes from changing how you think.

●      Leadership isn’t about collecting tools—it’s about knowing how to use them consistently.

●      And you can’t do it alone.

Because if knowledge alone was the answer, we’d all have our problems solved by now.

When Change Finally Clicks: Louise, Susan & Lorraine’s Stories

Take Louise. Before Bootcamp, she lacked confidence and wasn’t feeling good about her role. She spent more time second-guessing herself than actually leading. But when she stopped focusing on “getting it right” and instead focused on creating the right environment, everything shifted.

Her breakthrough? Realising that leadership isn’t about forcing people to work together—it’s about building the right space for connection to happen naturally.

Then there’s Susan, who was in full-blown firefighter mode—fixing the same problems over and over, carrying the weight of the whole practice on her shoulders. She thought if she just worked harder, pushed through, and got a few more skills under her belt, it would get better.

Her breakthrough? Understanding that her job wasn’t to do everything—it was to build a team that could.

And Lorraine, who saw her managers struggling with confidence—hiding behind emails instead of having real conversations, coming to her with problems instead of solutions. They had the knowledge, but they weren’t using it.

Her breakthrough? Creating a structure where leadership skills weren’t just learned—they were practiced, reinforced, and embedded.

What Really Makes the Difference

Here’s what all three of them had in common:

●      They didn’t need more information—they needed a shift in mindset.

●      They needed consistency—not just one-time fixes.

●      And they needed support—because real leadership isn’t done alone.

This is why I just relaunched the Great Boss Bootcamp as a 12-month programme—because leadership isn’t something you “tick off” after a few weeks.

It’s a process. It takes time. And the people who see real results? They commit to that process.

Bootcamp Is for Leaders Who Want to Get Off the Hamster Wheel

💬 “When I first joined, I’d lost my confidence as a manager and as a leader. I’m in a totally different place now.”

💬 ““Bootcamp helped me identify my strengths, tackle areas for improvement, and gain confidence as a leader. The impact has been felt across my team!”

💬 “I don’t know everything that goes on in this business anymore—and that’s a good thing! Being part of the Bootcamp has done wonders for my mental health.”

This is what fills me with pride and admiration—seeing leaders step into their confidence, create better teams, and finally feel in control of their work and their lives.

And right now, Bootcamp is 40% off until Feb 28.

If you’re tired of trying to piece it all together on your own, this is your chance to get the tools,

the support, and the community to make leadership feel easier.
