THINKING BUSINESS
a blog by Chris Barrow

Just one day – and just one win away

My weekly Bunker Day was switched to Tuesday this week, to accommodate Monday’s London workshop.

Here’s a record of just one day’s conversations:

  1. with a Millennial married dental couple who want to buy a parent’s long-established practice;

  2. with a Practice Manager who wants to set up her own freelance compliance and consultancy business;

  3. with a dental charity manager on her plans for a campaign later in the year;

  4. with the owner of a large mixed practice who wants some breakthrough strategies to take his business to the next level;

  5. with an existing private practice owner who wanted to sense-check his price list, review his zoning and learn how to recruit an apprentice dentist;

  6. with a female principal who, after 12 years, has plateaued and, again, wants breakthrough strategies.

That was just the telephone calls.

What do they all have in common?

They want to win.

Add to it a day of client emails, a catch up on FaceTime with Phillippa to talk about operational matters, a video blog for Australian dentists and some very careful thinking about projected sales for the next 5 months.

Then a late evening chat with Mark Topley, who stayed over last night and will be talking to my workshop delegates for the second time today in Manchester about how to create sustainable CSR programmes in your business.

Yes – today is The Patient Experience Day – why do I get the feeling that some of my audience will be thinking about football whilst I’m talking about innovation in customer service?

I’m grateful that the fates have conspired to have me presenting 10 minutes away from home today – no long journey – so I’ll be sat in the front of the TV tonight, holding my breath with my rattle and scarf.

Why are England doing so well in The World Cup – because they have a leader who has created an environment in which they believe in themselves and in each other. Because they want to win – just like you and I.

Attitude, not aptitude, determines altitude.

No matter the outcome – tomorrow it will be back to business.

Loving what we do. Loving when we do it. Loving who we do it with.

Winning.
