Peak to plains: my two-week countdown (and why Bridge2Aid matters)

In two weeks’ time I’ll be swapping my usual mode of transport (a laptop and a decent coffee) for something with pedals, sunburn potential, and a worrying amount of Lycra.
Along with Colin Campbell, I’m part of the Bridge2Aid Peak to Plains Safari Cycle 2026 team: a group of dental cyclists heading from the foothills of Kilimanjaro down towards the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania to raise funds for Bridge2Aid. (Bridge 2 Aid)
If you don’t already know Bridge2Aid, the emphasis is training and sustainability: equipping local clinicians to provide safe emergency dental care and building capability that remains long after the volunteers have left.
Historically, that has included training hundreds of healthcare workers, and more recently it has focused on training and mentoring local dental therapists and delivering community education.
The Peak to Plains fundraising has a very specific purpose: to fund an outreach and training programme in February 2026, including training dental therapists and providing emergency dental care to large numbers of patients who would otherwise have little or no access.
So, here’s the ask. If you’ve ever read one of my posts, attended a webinar, borrowed an idea, nicked a template, or simply enjoyed the occasional rant about the state of modern dentistry, please consider supporting the cause. Your donation goes straight into funding training and care where it’s needed most.
Simply click the link below and donate any amount - every penny goes to the charity - the bike riders are self-funding.
This is the first of a short run of posts between now and the start line. I’ll also be keeping a photographic (and probably slightly breathless) video diary during the ride, and I’ll share where to follow along on social media nearer the time.
Thank you in advance. If nothing else, your donation will help ensure this midlife cycling experiment has a worthwhile point.
