THINKING BUSINESS

Here's how I know I need a holiday....has this ever happened to you?

I'm at The Limerick Strand Hotel on Wednesday evening and, after arriving at Shannon on a midnight flight, 5 hours sleep, a full-day practice visit and 3 evening Zoom calls, I decide to get an early night and I'm in bed at 21:00.

I fall asleep reading.

I wake disorientated - look at my watch and see it’s 21:20.

But.........I think it’s 09:20 on Thursday morning and jump out of bed because I’ve missed my 07:30 train from Limerick Colbert station.

I stand in my hotel bedroom thinking:

  • I must call Phillippa and ask her to ring the client and apologise because he will be at Cork station waiting to pick me up;

  • I must call reception and order a taxi to the station;

  • I’ll probably miss my meeting and go straight to Cork airport to catch the flight to London - I’ll have to refund the client;

  • Or shall I just go back to Shannon and try and get a flight to London?

  • Or shall I shower (or just get dressed) and run for the station?

  • I'm going to have to come back to Cork and deliver the meeting I've missed.

Frozen in panic - and then it slowly dawns on me that it’s 21:20 and I’m still on Wednesday night.

What has passed is 20 minutes and not 24 hours.

I get back in bed, turn the lights out and it takes me another half hour to calm down and fall asleep.

Time for a holiday methinks. Have you ever done anything like this?

I think its the traveling that's disorientating, I do this from time to time especially when I am travelling and walking up in strange rooms. A good night sleep or two and a day off built into your schedule you should be ok again.
