July began in Cheshire, included many trips around the UK and Ireland, then to Ithaca, Greece, and ended at my desk, listening to the accumulated evidence of a month that tested business owners.
In Greece I noticed quieter roads, restaurants and beaches. Fuel prices had risen and tourists seemed more cautious. Then we visited Myrtia, a small, inconveniently located and unapologetically expensive hilltop restaurant. It was full, with a waiting list.
That became my picture of July.
There is no point denying the headwinds. Consumer confidence is fragile, large treatment decisions are taking longer, costs continue to rise and empty spaces have reappeared in diaries. At the same time, excellent businesses are still busy. There is always a market for quality, expertise and exceptional hospitality. The challenge is to become the Myrtia of your local dental economy.
