THINKING BUSINESS

Where are the leaders?

Do you trust English politicians? Do you think the Brussels expenses scandal is being hidden away as we watch? Do you trust international bankers any more? Where do we look for our leadership? Alan Sugar? Simon Cowell? 20 million people tuned in to Saturday’s final of “Britain’s Got Talent” – 1 in 3 of the population. I wonder what percentage will vote in tomorrow’s European elections? Does anyone care who represents us? Does anyone know? Last week’s Question Time was the first indication of the Brussels scams yet to be revealed. The news that MEP’s can claim first-class travel from their constituency to Parliament, irrespective of their travel method – and that the canny British MEP can make £900 a week profit. Will the new series of Big Brother provide the latest distraction? No doubt a carefully chosen group of psychological freaks to provide unreality TV acting as an anaesthetic for the reality of our defunct systems. They missed a chance by not asking Susan Boyle to rush over there from The Priory – that would have been inspired. The thrill of the Obama factor is wearing off – he is beginning to sound like a politician and a bureaucrat. If Gordon Brown were the manager of a football team he would have been sacked by now – a complete lack of leadership, vision, determination, charisma – just a middle manager trying to keep his job. And the alternatives? Dave and Nick – bloody hell. Where are the leaders? Alex Ferguson for Prime Minister. Arsene Wenger for Chancellor – safe pair of hands. Alan Shearer – Ministry of Defence. Martin O’Neill – The Home Office. Any other suggestions? Lets create a new political party – the Footballers Alliance. Anything to cheer us up!
