Goodbye summer. Hello the final four months.

Today we wake up to 115 shopping days before Christmas.
That may sound generous. It isn’t.
By the time we have navigated the return to school, the last-minute holiday absences, the autumn half-term, the clocks going back and the first appearance of mince pies in reception, Christmas will be knocking at the door.
The summer holidays are over. It is time to shake the sand from our shoes, put our heads down and make the final four months of 2026 count.
This is when leadership earns its place: calm, visible, commercially aware and relentlessly consistent every day.
For dental businesses, September to December is often the busiest and most commercially important period of the year. Sales targets must be achieved, treatment plans followed up, diaries kept productive and every available opportunity converted into excellent care and sustainable revenue.
That doesn't mean becoming pushy. It means becoming purposeful.
Patients are making decisions in an atmosphere shaped by consumer confidence, household budgets and uncertainty. Practice owners and leadership teams must understand patient sentiment, anticipate hesitation and respond with clarity, empathy and confidence. In a cautious market, five-star hospitality is no longer the finishing touch. It is part of the treatment journey.
From the first telephone call to the final review, patients should feel welcomed, listened to, informed and looked after. The practices that win will not necessarily be the cheapest. They will be those that create the greatest confidence.
At the same time, these final four months are not simply about finishing 2026 strongly. They are about making sure that 2027 begins at full speed.
There is a world of difference between strategic planning and tactical deployment.
Strategy decides where you are going, why it matters and what success will look like. Tactical deployment converts that ambition into quarterly priorities, named owners, deadlines, measurements and conversations.
One without the other leaves you with either a beautiful plan that gathers dust or a very busy team travelling in circles.
Your senior leadership team must be central to both.
An empowered SLT does not wait for the principal to provide every answer. Its members understand the destination, own their areas of responsibility, make decisions, hold each other accountable and bring out the best in the wider team. The next four months are the time to give them the clarity, confidence and authority to do exactly that.
On Friday 4 September, I will be launching our plans for Business Education at The Campbell Academy in 2027, including a new-look Extreme Business community.
It is an important next chapter, designed to help independent dental practices think more strategically, implement more effectively and win in an increasingly demanding landscape.
Over the weeks ahead, I will reveal more about those plans, the thinking behind them and the practical support we will provide.
So, goodbye summer.
Hello autumn. Hello winter. Hello focus.
Let’s finish 2026 with intent, hit the ground running on 1 January and make 2027 a fantastic year.
