Shooting stars and slow burners

The world, life, dentistry - is made up of shooting stars and slow burners.

The shooting stars dazzle us for a while with surprise at their arrival, the streak of bright light as they cross our field of vision and then a vanishing trail on our retina when the light fizzles out.

The slow burners just keep on, keeping on, relentlessly pursuing their mission, vision, values and goals - drip, drip, drip goes the tap.

Who were the shooting stars of yesteryear?

I've forgotten most of them, just as I'll forget those who dazzle today.
