The last day
Chris | January 4, 2009Sunday and the last day of the Christmas and New Year holiday – back to work tomorrow and that means the alarm clock will be going off early again.
Its been a very good couple of weeks, apart from a bizarre New Year’s Eve that involved a dying cat, a badly swollen ankle (mine) and a cancelled party. I could write a very good BBC play based on the events of the evening but will respect the privacy of the cat’s owners, who were understandably horrified by the event.
Other than that, I’ve been steadily working my way through the fourth novel in the Twilight series, learning the ropes on my beautiful new Macbook (with eternal thanks to Kim Black for her telephone guidance from California) and generally resting, sleeping late, eating well and getting my soul back in shape.
The ankle injury has buggered up the post-New Year running campaign – that will have to wait.
But – hey – how much faster and better is the Macbook than my clunky old Vaio that sits, somewhat forlornly, beside me as I type?
I know, I know – why didn’t I do this sooner?
Same for my best new gadget of 2008 – SatNav on the M3 – how did I survive without it?
Second best was the 3G iphone, which continues to be one of the best business tools ever.
Best business book was “Tribes” by Seth Godin.
Best personal development book – “Facing Love Addiction” by Pia Mellody.
Best novel – “Perdido Street Station” by China Mieville.
I’m all Apple’d up now – and ready for the new business year to start.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens to retail sales over the next three months – and how that impacts the sale of private dentistry.
I’ll be watching carefully – and I have a few surprises under my belt for my faithful followers.

Happy New Year mate
Early nights
easy rising
it all seems so long ago. Tomorrow we go to war again. 2009 – the time to drive a new market model for delivery of dental care independent of Government interference
We ran a counselling sesssion: we had to put down one of our old dogs on NY Day and some friends lost a dog to a car impact on NYE and were beside themselves
Champagne and some reminiscences have helped
We use a cornish stome mason and his products help at http://www.celticmasonart.co.uk/
Sat nav:
which is when you tell IT where to go!!!
1 the maps are only as good as the data – make no assumption that your map is accurate. Check you map data and accuracy and get the upgrade package
2 Postcodes in the UK are variable esp in rural areas – a post code will get you within 0.5m – you may still have to use that rarest of skills, common sense
3 Remember: shortest routes out of / into departures / arrival cities / towns , quickest routes BETWEEN so change the settings en route
4 A geek wrote the program that designates your route . and he may not have worked for Apple, indeed may not even be able to drive
5 Get the UK ’safety’ camera and speed trap package – its worth its weight
6 Sat nav only works for intelligent drivers
7 Find the internal settings and tweak them – PNDs are surprisingly accurate for ETA etc
8 Try inputting the route and then ignore it until you know you need it – the road is mnor important than the screen
9 The male brain [left side] has greater capacity to navigate than the machine – but it can always tell you where you are at that moment
